GreatGas 24/7 Santry - Ireland's first unmanned Unleaded filling station

Fuel supplier GreatGas has agreed a €250,000 deal with Tokheim, an international provider of fuel retailing systems, to open three new unmanned service stations in the next 12 months.

GreatGas opened Ireland’s only unmanned service station on the Old Airport Road in the Dublin suburb of Santry two years ago. Ray O’Sullivan, managing director of GreatGas, said the company planned to partner with forecourt owners around Ireland to open more unmanned stations in the coming months.

‘‘We are now well advanced with plans to roll out three more outlets around the country in the coming year and we are also open to approaches from other existing forecourt owners who are interested in partnering with us on this new business model," said O’Sullivan.

Tokheim has about 20,000 unmanned ‘pay@pump’ terminals in place in Europe. Paul Farren, general manager of Tokheim Ireland, said the number of service stations in operation here had dropped by 10 per cent year-on-year for the last decade.

‘‘There are now just over 1,200 service stations in the Republic and many are on the verge of closure," Farren said. ‘‘But this new ‘pay-at-the-pump’ business model has given them renewed hope for the future of their business. In addition, many who have already closed are also considering re-opening on this basis. This revolutionary concept could save their business."
